What exactly is it? Let’s find out with this Coolbox toolbox review.

Overview

The Coolbox toolbox was first offered to the public through Indiegogo in 2016 where it received an impressive US$425,166 of funds from backers. Just after its success in the crowdfunding scene, the Coolbox appeared in the popular show Shark Tank. While its inventors, Chris Stoikos and Jason Neubauer, ended up getting a deal with one of the sharks, nothing came out of it. We can only assume that the deal fell through.

Fast forward to today, the No products found. is offered on the company’s website and No products found.. Compared to other toolboxes of the same size, this is among the more expensive units you can get. For instance, the Dewalt ToughSystem the GEARWRENCH Drawer Steel Toolbox, Keter Masterloader and the Dewalt Tool Bb with Wheels are all cheaper. It is, however, cheaper than the Milwaukee PACKOUT Rolling Toolbox.

So what makes Coolbox pricier than most toolboxes? Well, because it is smart and offers more functions than any other toolbox in the market. Not only does it store your tools but it also has other features that are aimed to make your projects more convenient and enjoyable.

Features

Audio

With Coolbox, you can play your favorite tunes while working. It is equipped with dual speakers and you can connect your phone through the 3.5mm AUX input or Bluetooth.

Power Options

One of the best things we love about Coolbox is its internal battery. You can charge the unit’s battery and use it to power your small tools or appliances for a short time. It can also act as a power bank, so you can charge your phones and other devices through the USB power outlets.

The Coolbox also has a pass-through power option and 3-way splitter, which allows you to plug in additional tools while the box is connected to an external power source. There’s also an included cord for charging and for utilizing this feature. A pass-through power feature removes your need for a separate extension cord.

Light

When it gets too dark to work, you can use Coolbox’s detachable LED lamp, which has 2 brightness settings.

Whiteboard

Coolbox comes with a removable dual-sided dry-erase whiteboard. This is pretty handy in keeping track of project notes and dimensions.

Bottle Opener

After a long day of work, you can chill and crack open a cold beer or soda using the box’s integrated bottle opener.

Magnetic Lid

Bolts and nuts can quickly disappear when you’re working on something. But with Coolbox, this isn’t a problem. With its neodymium magnetic lid, you can keep loose nuts, bolts, and other parts in sight, within arm’s reach, and together in one place. The lid can hold up to 500g.

LED Display

Coolbox has an LED display that shows the battery level and the time, so you know when to end your hard day’s work.

Now, let’s get more technical. Coolbox has an IPX4 rating, which is the minimum protection rating on any device intended for occasional outdoor use. This is also the minimum protection any device that might be used near water should have. With this rating, Coolbox is only resistant to water splashes and its protection from solids has not been tested.

Why is this important? Well, this rating shows a toolbox’s durability and effectiveness against dirt and water, which can both seep through and affect your tools. Compared to other top toolboxes, the IP rating of Coolbox is underwhelming. To give you an idea, the Dewalt ToughSystem and Milwaukee PACKOUT Rolling Toolbox have a rating of IP65.

In terms of weight capacity, Coolbox can carry as much as 60-65lbs. It is ideal for small and medium-sized tools. Compared to others, it’s similar to the Dewalt TSTAK with wheels and Keter Masterloader, which can both carry 66lbs and cost only US$70.

Aesthetics

Without the LED display, speakers, sockets, and the included 8ft AC extension cable at the back, Coolbox looks very similar to other toolboxes. It looks rugged and very sturdy. There are dual handles on the sides and one on top. There are also rubberized wheels for easy maneuverability and portability.

For storage spaces, Coolbox offers ample space inside. There’s even a small designated compartment dedicated to storing your cold drinks – or you can just use it for your other tools. It also comes with a removable tray for more organizing options.

Of course, this wouldn’t be Coolbox if it doesn’t offer something extra. There’s a compartment in front, behind the logo, where you can place your phone and other small items. You can also prop your phone or tablet on either of the 2 device stands, 1 is on the lid and the other is inside the box. This is pretty convenient if you’re watching tutorials.

Conclusion

Coolbox is loaded with extra features. Now the question is, do you need all of them? Probably not. But with the built-in battery, pass-through power option, 3-way splitter, USB charging ports, and detachable light, the Coolbox is already a steal. With all of these integrated accessories and features, you can work faster and easier. The other features? Well, they may be unnecessary for some but it’s nice to know you have them when you need them.

Overall, for its functionality and integrated accessories, the Coolbox is no doubt the smartest toolbox in the shed. While it might need improvement on its durability and protectiveness against the elements, it can do what every other toolbox does and so much more.
