The Look Station
As far as it’s appearance, the iFetch Too (or iFetch 2) looks very similar to it’s older, yet smaller, brothers. Weighing around 12lbs, the larger components of the revised ball launcher cater for bigger sized balls to play with. At approximately 3 times the size of the iFetch Original, your bigger dog will instantly recognise that playtime has arrived!
We actually much prefer the shape of the iFetch Too compared to the iFetch Original. It seems that customer feedback was taken on board and now you have a much more polished product overall. Retaining a unique outward design, everything about the iFetch Too is just so smooth. This makes the device look like art, rather than a piece of cutting-edge technology. Honestly, the shape of the iFetch original used to bug us somewhat with its slanted dispenser. However, this model is completely round and a class apart from the rest of the ball launchers on the market.
The double entendre of “iFetch Too” was also a hit with our team. Playing on the fact that their first product was not fit for larger dogs, the second edition really masks over the development error. We can just imagine your dogs screaming “Now, I fetch too!!” as the silly mutts run into a tree. Again.
iFetch Too Features Review
Arguably the most popular automatic dog ball launcher on the market, the iFetch Too is one of them fancy goods that come packed with features. On top of the unit, you will see the large funnel-like opening where you or your dog can easily drop the ball into the launcher. Yes, you can teach your dog how to play fetch themselves!
You will also see at the top of the funnel, there’s an indented handle built into the unit. This handle comes useful when you need to move the iFetch around. Given that the iFetch Too can shoot tennis balls up to 40 feet, you’ll probably want to keep playtime strictly in natures back yard.
The iFetch Too also comes with a distance slider. With three settings to choose from (10 feet, 25 feet, 40 feet) you have total control over how far your dog has to run. Keep the slider in the down position so the white is showing to lock in the 10 feet distance. Alternatively, ramp it up and watch your dogs go absolutely wild. (Watch out for the trees, mind you!).
One of the best features of the iFetch Too is actually the built-in rechargeable battery. Although not the sexiest of things to mention, there is nothing more annoying than having to replace batteries and this feature is a blessing. Being battery powered, you are free to take the unit outside but be sure to bring it back home when done. As with all battery-powered gadgets, you should never put them at risk with changing weather conditions. The iFetch Too can also be left plugged into your electrical outlet at all times. It won’t affect the performance of the unit at all; only your electricity bill.
iFetch Too Full Feature List
When you purchase the iFetch Too, you can expect a top-class automatic ball launcher for your dog. The main features of this gadget include:
- Automatic Dog Ball Launcher
- Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery.
- Non-Abrasive Branded Tennis Size Balls.
- 3x Distance Settings.
- 5 Second Launch Time Delay.
- Easy To Clean Exterior
- Indoor & Outdoor Friendly Device.
The iFetch Too is everything that you loved about the original iFetch but just bigger and better. We hope that one day they release a device that talks to your dog as well, but that could be a while. Perhaps a gadget that can store a handful of tennis balls inside and be remotely controlled by your smartphone or smart home devices. Now there’s an idea for absolute endless fun whilst sitting down!
Additional Safety Features
For those of you who were concerned about the original product not being suitable for your larger dog, you no longer need to worry. In addition to this, due to the new shape and design of the iFetch Too, the overall usage is much safer. Projecting balls much higher into the air, you no longer run the risk of the ball smacking your dog in the toosh. Another cool safety feature is the ability to lock the firing distance to just 10 feet with a slideable button. This now means that the iFetch Too can be safely used indoors with your super energetic pup. Although, we still recommend keeping all activities outside. Then again, what you do in your own home is entirely up to you!
iFetch Vs iFetch Too Review
Apart from the obvious difference in size and the fact that the iFetch Too is catered towards larger dogs, the primary differences between these two gadgets boil down to the mechanics. Whilst any dog can use the iFetch Too, therefore offering great safety for your oversized pooch, the upgraded mechanisms also make this gadget a worthwhile purchase. With a launch delay of around 5 seconds to keep your dog guessing and a rechargeable battery, the iFetch Too is just simply more polished. The extra 10-foot launching distance also makes your pup tire much faster (and you children if they are still of the age that they think they can outrun a greyhound!).
The primary differences between the iFetch Original & iFetch Too include:
- Greater Safety For Your Larger Dog.
- Shoots Full-Size Tennis Balls.
- Smoother Exterior & Rounded Finish.
- Built-In Rechargeable Battery.
- 10-Foot Extra Launching Distance.
- 5 Second Time Delay.
- $200+ Additional Cost.
Overall, the iFetch Too is a better product and worth purchasing for all sized dogs. If you do have a small pooch then the iFetch Original can be purchased for a cheaper price. However, if you plan on using frequently, be prepared to purchase plenty of batteries over time.
Price & Value
Given that the price of the iFetch Too is almost twice as much as the original iFetch, this product does get slightly downgraded by our team. That said for $400AUD, for some dog owners, this is nothing compared to how much you would pay for things like pet insurance and food across the course of your pooches lifetime. As far as value goes, the iFetch Too is bags of fun for everybody involved. By teaching your dog to play fetch by themselves, you can kick back and marvel in the entertainment. In fact, we’ve been watching our pooch run for hours whilst writing this iFetch Too review!
If you have an extremely large dog then there isn’t really much choice for you other than the iFetch Too. For those who have mid-size dogs, you can get away with the iFetch Original, however, the ball will only travel 30 feet instead of 40 feet. It also won’t come with a rechargeable battery and the sleek new design. Overall, there is a lot of value from this ball launcher and if within your budget, it will fast become a huge hit with your family.
Inside The Box
Upon opening the box, you will be greeted with the following:
- 1x Automatic Ball Launcher.
- 3x iFetch Branded Non-Abrasive Tennis Balls.
- 1x AC charger for 110 and 220 volts.
- Instruction Manual.
One of the best things about this model is that there is no assembly required. Just open the box, charge the battery and you’re good to go! Once the internal lithium-ion battery is completely charged, the iFetch Too should throw around 280-300 balls. Depending on the cardiovascular fitness of your dog, this typically will last around 10 to 15 days worth of activity. Don’t forget that the iFetch Too launches the ball a sizeable distance so your dog will likely tire a lot quicker than if you were throwing the ball yourself. Not to mention less strain on your arms!
iFetch Too Review Summary
For bigger dogs, with bigger balls, the iFetch Too is a serious toy for completely fetch-crazy dogs. As a step up from its wildly successful predecessor, this gadget is arguably the best automatic dog ball launcher on the market. As mentioned earlier in this iFetch Too review, we still feel that the price is a little bit steep but you cannot deny the quality of mechanics. Although there are other models on the market that have more features than the Too, it brings the perfect mix of reliability, style, and performance that makes this our go-to launcher for medium to large dogs.
