Experience that floating feeling with one of the most comfortable bean bags around – the Moon Pod. Whether you are sitting on it, reclining, or lying down, this bean bag offers the ultimate support and relaxation to help you achieve a healthy mind and body.
- Very comfortable
- It may not be comfortable for very tall people
A bean bag that can relieve back and neck pain while resting and help reduce your stress and anxiety levels? Sounds like a dream, right? Well, that’s exactly what the Mood Pod promises. It is self-proclaimed as a “zero-gravity beanbag for all-day deep relaxation”, and even claims to mimic the sensation of Flotation Therapy, which is a practice known to help people who suffer from insomnia, ADHD, and PTSD.
So what exactly is the Moon Pod and how is it capable of doing what it says it does? Let’s find out with this review. Looking for something? Click on any of the links below to skip to that section.
Moon Pod was first launched on Kickstarter in 2018 by John Fiorentino. This is the same person and group of people who brought the highly successful crowdfunding project “Gravity: The Weighted Blanket”, which received a massive US$4,729,263 of funding back in 2017. After Moon Pod’s campaign ended, it received US$1,271,724, which isn’t as high but impressive nonetheless.
Introduced as the “Beanbag Reinvented”, Moon Pod delivers a feeling of zero-gravity weightlessness – no matter your position. This creates a rare static state, which is said to provide you with the ultimate feeling of stress relief and relaxation. It can be used for naps, sitting down, chilling out, or while working.
With everything Moon Pod claimed to be, we were a little skeptical at first. It is still a beanbag after all and having owned a lot of those already, we weren’t sure if it was worth checking out. But to our surprise, Mood Pod did exactly as promised – to make you relax like you’ve never relaxed before.
But here’s the thing – Moon Pod is pricey. With an original price of US$399, it is more expensive than many of the popular beanbags today, including the Big Joe Lenox , and Saxx 5’ Bean Bag Chair. However, it is still more affordable than the cheapest Lovesac product – the GamerSac, which is sold at US$600.
The magic of Moon Pod lies in its responsive high-density beads. It makes you feel weightless like you’re floating on a soft and fluffy cloud. This filling also provides you with the same sensations as that of Flotation Therapy, which is a practice where you will lie in the water and usually done in a sensory deprivation tank. Such practice is said to help calm you down, reduce stress, release anxiety, and boost creativity. While we’ve never done Flotation Therapy, Moon Pod did help relax and calm us down.
What we love about Moon Pod is that it molds itself to your body. It morphs to your shape, providing you with the ultimate comfort. Unlike the other bean bags, Moon Pod also reacts to you by providing you with incredible support to your back and neck.
Functional Outer Cover
Moon Pod’s outer cover is machine-washable, making it easy to clean and maintain. It is also pet-friendly, so you won’t have any problem with your pets ripping it open. Since we’re already on the topic of pets, we’re certain your dogs or cats will love this bean bag. Ours just can’t seem to get enough of it.
The outer cover is very, very stretchy – which makes sense if you want to keep everything compressed. This also helps provide you with ergonomic support.
Multiple Ways to Relax
The Moon Pod can morph into 3 different positions. You can sit on it, recline, or lay down. This makes it perfect not only for sleeping, but also when you want to watch TV, read a book, or work with your laptop.
Another great thing about Moon Pod is its portability. Unlike many bean bags, it isn’t bulky, heavy, or large. In fact, it has a very sleek profile. It weighs only 12lbs and takes up only 4 sq. ft of space. This makes it easy to move around and store anywhere.
Supportive Dual Membrane
Moon Pod has an inner shell that holds the high-friction beads together. This is made of a special spandex blend, which is also very stretchy like the outer shell. Both shells work together to provide you with the structural support you will need.
|Dimensions||50-56 x 20-24 x 20-24 inches|
|Fill||High-friction custom density EPS bead|
|Floorspace||4 sq. ft.|

If you think we got the dimensions wrong, well, we did not. Since Moon Pod has an amorphous shape – which means it doesn’t have a clearly defined shape or form – its dimensions can vary. When you sit on it, the Mood Pod widens and gets shorter. But if you’re worried about whether or not you could fit on it, fear not. It has been tested on a wide range of users and even those up to 6’8” have found this bean bag comfortable.
However, if you are within this height range or close to it, you may not appreciate Moon Pod while lying down. This is because your legs, thighs, knees, and feet will be on the ground. So you’d feel weightless in your upper body but not so much with your lower. As a way around this, you can purchase the company’s Lunar Lift. It is a footrest designed to complete your Moon Pod experience. But again, that’s another pricey buy for an already expensive product.
While other bean bags use a mixture of foams or recycled polystyrene, Moon Pod uses high-friction custom EPS beads. So instead of sinking to the floor and ending up with an aching lower back, it effectively cups your body and keeps you elevated – mimicking the experience of floating. This fill is also brand new and is said to last for years.
In terms of design, the most notable feature of Moon Pod compared to other bean bags is its size and weight. It is small and light, which makes it easy to move and transfer from one room to another. To give you an idea, Lovesac’s smallest and cheapest product, the GamerSac, already weighs 22lbs. Moon Pod almost weighs half of that.
Since Moon Pod is dense enough, it can stand up on its own. It won’t take up too much space, so you can easily put it in a corner or hide it in the closet. For other bean bags that allow you to lay down, this isn’t even possible.
Now, while Moon Pod has a sleek profile, it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing fixture to have around. At first glance, it looks like a very big pillow, which may not blend well with your living room. You do have a few color options, though, including Moon Indigo, Cosmic Ash, Space Gray, Neptune Blue, and Rose Quartz.
Moon Pod truly is a reinvented bean bag. It is comfortable, relaxing, and it doesn’t let you sink to the floor like many of the regular bean bags today. Whether you are lying on it, sitting, or reclining, the Mood Pod can provide you with the most support we’ve ever seen and felt from a bean bag. It conforms to your body and adjusts every time you move.
Most importantly, Mood Pod delivers on its promises. By helping you achieve the ultimate relaxation and the rest your body needs, you can reduce stress and improve your health. Sure, the Mood Pod is a little more expensive than the other bean bags around. But for its morphing capabilities, support, portability, and incredible comfort, it is worth every penny. After all, that floating feeling on the moon does come with a price.
