Since widgets cater more to smartphones, Spotify has found a way to transform its popular music app software into standalone hardware. The purpose of the Car Thing is to address infotainment and music streaming accessibility to a wider range of vehicles.
We don’t expect the built-in AI to be as robust as Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa but Spotify gave us a surprise that they could pull off this kind of hardware.
Let Car Thing Take Care Of The Music
Smartphones nowadays tend to be multi-purpose whenever you’re out on the road. You can set wireless Bluetooth calling, navigation and others.
But Spotify thought of a way to separate your phone tasks into this nifty gadget that focuses on curating your collection of music and podcast playlists.
However, you will need to have a premium subscription to the music streaming service if you want to make the most out of this thing. You wouldn’t wanna hear annoying ads while going on a long drive.
Turn The Dial And Swipe Away
Spotify’s Car Thing design has a dial that can let you browse, select, play and discover music tracks. The touch screen display also tells you what’s currently playing in your library as well as results from voice search where you can swipe to browse further or tap to play.
It also includes four preset buttons that you to switch to specific content such as the newest podcast episodes and up-to-date news.
For US residents, Spotify is willing to give the Car Thing away for a limited time and they will only need to pay $6.99 for shipping and they plan on selling it for $79.99.
You can join the waitlist if you want to grab your own music streaming gadget for your car.
