Despite receiving heavy backlash from the gaming community especially on how the narrative of the game was drawn out, The Last of Us Part 2 has snatched seven awards including Game of The Year.
Naughty Dog has humiliated critics once again as they have ruled over these awards. Other game titles that were nominated for Game of The Year include Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Hades.
Good Critic Reviews Trump Bad User Reviews
If you look at the recent Metacritic review for Naughty Dog’s claimed masterpiece, it actually had a score of over 90. However, the user score was only 5.7 out of 10 as of this writing.
This is why most people off Twitter were also enraged by the number of awards that the game was able to claim.Â
The Other Six Awards The Game Was Able To Steal
Although the Internet had thoughts of other deserving game titles of getting these awards, Naughty Dog has caught them by surprise. One user observed that people were angrier that this game even won Best Narrative.
The Last of Us Part 2 winning The Best Narrative at #TheGameAwards is gonna make more people mad than it winning GOTY and I am all here for it pic.twitter.com/dvMCTff9Iz

They were also able to get Best Action/Adventure game in the process and by the looks of this recent YouTube post by The Game Awards, it looks like the majority don’t agree with this awarding.

What’s even more surprising in this event was that Doom Eternal wasn’t able to snag any award from its 4 nominations as The Last of Us Part 2 stole Best Audio Design while Hades stole its spotlight from Best Action.
However, despite The Last of Us Part 2 hogging almost all of the awards, the Internet knows who the real winner of these awards are. Luckily there was also a category called Player’s Voice and Ghost of Tsushima was able to claim that throne.
We are so honored to see #GhostOfTsushima win Best Art Direction and the Player's Voice award at #TheGameAwards! We are grateful for the incredible support this year, and so proud of our team's hard work! Thank you so much to everyone, and congratulations to every winner tonight! pic.twitter.com/dhp6XgJpT6
