Well known for its collection of retro and modern controllers, the 8BitDo Pro 2 has greatly evolved from its SN30 Pro+ predecessor. If you’re looking for a slightly cheaper PS5 DualSense Controller alternative then this all-around controller might be worth considering.

What’s new? Aside from its improved grips, the 8BitDo Pro 2 gives you more buttons, customizable presets through the included mobile app and much more.

Button Mapping and Sensitivity Customization

The built-in software mobile app gives you total control of every piece of your controller. The button mapping feature lets you assign different combinations according to your liking.

For example, you might want to set your Y button to put you back on the home screen or set your B button to act as a substitute for your left or right trigger button.

You can also set the sensitivity of the joysticks as well as the left and right triggers for higher precision control. Controller vibration can also be set according to your comfort level whenever you’re playing your favourite action games.

Additional Buttons For Macros & Better Grips

The Pro 2 also includes two additional Pro buttons at the back of the controller which you can program your macros into for a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Macros let you create button combinations that you can do instantly with just a push of a button. This might be useful especially if you’re playing fighting games in your favourite Capcom titles such as Street Fighter.

So a combo like pressing up, right, Y and B can now be assigned to one of the Pro buttons and probably your “finisher” combo is assigned to the other button.

8BitDo Pro 2 also has firmer grips than its previous model making sure that you can hold the controller effortlessly.

4-Way Mode Switching Button

Along with the Pro buttons located at the back is also a 4-way mode switching button located at the middle which makes connectivity across other platforms easier than ever before.

If you own the classic 8BitDo SN30 Pro, you would press the Start button and either of the four buttons (X, Y, A, B) to connect to your gaming platform.

With the Pro 2, it now only takes a flick of the back switch and you can easily switch to your preferred platform whether it’s the Nintendo Switch, Windows, macOS, Android, Steam or even Raspberry Pi.

Feel free to hop over on the  8BitDo Amazon store and pre-order your own in either the Black, G Classic, or Gray Edition which is scheduled for release on April 12, 2021.
