What Is IPMP?
IPMP is the general name of four project management certifications launched in the world. Currently, it has gained the recognition of more than 30 countries. It has four levels: IPMP A, the certified advanced project manager; IPMP B, the certified project manager; IPMP C, certified project management expert; IPMP D, certified project management professional.
Candidates can participate in the certification exam according to their professional level. PMP only has one level. Many countries introduce the PMIPMP certification system. The PMP exam level is similar to that of IPMP C.
The Differences of Exam Content Between IPMP and PMP exams
IPMP attaches importance to the test of experience and abilities of candidates. According to the basic definition of IPMP test, abilities equal to knowledge, experience plus personal qualities. IPMP certification has a set of strict, scientific, and regulated procedure. Each certification level has corresponding test procedures including written test (questions relevant to experience and knowledge), seminars, project reports and interviews.
PMI PMP exam emphasizes knowledge. PMP certification exam only has written test consisting of optional questions.
On introduction approaches, IPMP is introduced by PMRC, Project Management Research Committee authorized by IPMA. PMRC is the only trans-industries project management organization in China which represents China to join in IPMA. It communicates with other professional project management organizations worldwide. Mant advanced project management experts in China are members of PMRC.
According to the requirements of IPMA, PMRC sets up the project management knowledge system in China and the criterion of national project management profession qualities on the combination of China’s national conditions. After the authorization of IPMA, PMRC further promotes IPMP. PMRC has localized the certification procedures, trainings and exams of IPMP. Therefore, IPMP is a project management certification featuring Chinese characteristics.
PMP certification, differently from IPMP is introduced without localization. The relevant certification procedures, trainings, and exams are all in English. Maybe, it is gradually localizing. Because IPMP needs to be localized, more preparation should be done. That is why IPMP was officially initiated in July, 2001, much later than the PMI PMP certification.
On the management of the certifications, PMRC is authorized to manage the IPMP certification in China by IPMA. IPMA committee will decide whether a candidate can pass the test and acquire the certificate as well as the release and management of certificates under the guidance and monitor of IPMA.
Candidates attend the IPMP training and test and they will receive a certification for finishing IPMP courses issued by IPMA China Certification Management Body. Then, they can acquire the internationally-recognized certificate released by IPMA. The certification number and the name of the holder will be published on the official website of IPMA.
PMP training institutions in China are only responsible for training and holding the exam. Whether the candidates can pass the test and obtain the certificate or not are decided by PMI. The exam results will be reported to PMI that issues and manages certification. PMP is more influential than IPMP.
