How we choose products
Short version: we don't test products in a lab. We do the reading a careful buyer would do, check it against what owners report and what shops are charging, and we keep checking.
What goes into a guide
- What's on sale in Australia. We read the current ranges at Amazon Australia, JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys. A product has to be in stock at Amazon Australia to be listed, because that is where most of our readers buy.
- What owners say. Where a retailer publishes customer ratings, we rank on the score weighted by how many people gave it. A 4.6 from a thousand buyers counts for more than a 5.0 from twelve. Each product shows its score, the number of reviews and where they come from.
- What independent reviewers recommend. We look for specific models recommended by established review sources, and only cite a source when we have opened the page and it names that product. We link to it so you can read it yourself.
- What sells. Where there are no owner ratings we can rely on, we use Amazon Australia's own best-seller rank, and we say that is why the product is listed.
- What the maker states. Features, sizes and capacities come from the manufacturer's published specifications. When a claim is the maker's, we say so.
What we don't do
- We don't claim to have used or tested a product when we haven't.
- We don't invent ratings, quotes or reviewers.
- We don't accept payment to include or rank a product.
- We don't keep recommending something you can no longer buy.
Prices and stock
Prices and availability are checked automatically, and the date of the last check is shown on every product. Amazon prices are shown only while they are less than a day old. If a pick sells out or is discontinued, it is replaced with the next best option and the guide is updated.
How the site makes money
Some links are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. That never changes which products are listed or the order they appear in. See our affiliate disclosure.
How guides are written
Guides are drafted with the help of AI tools working from the product data described above, then checked against that data before they are published. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we will fix it.
